Despite Everything, the Dow Is Up
Neil Cavuto had an excellent commentary yesterday on "Why a Dow record -- even a teasing one -- means a lot." He makes some very worthwhile points. Despite 9/11, internet bubble burst, corporate scandals, a recession, being at war, etc.... The Dow, our oldest index of the health of the U.S. market, is still close to setting an all-time historical record. (Actually, yesterday it did break the all-time record.) When you stop and think about it, that really says a lot -- doesn't it? I'm having a hard time putting my finger on just what it says. But it's surely something about the human capacity to move on, move forward, move up to even greater levels of prosperity and success -- even in the face of tragedy, setbacks, and adversity.
